Reduce Your Energy Bills with Smart Clean Energy

Clean Energy Renewables is a Silicon Valley–based firm licensed in California (Lic #1119067). We specialize in solar, battery backup, EV charging, and clean energy consulting for premium homes.
San Mateo is one of the larger cities in San Mateo County, and its housing stock reflects that. A 1920s bungalow near Central Park, a mid-century house in Hillsdale, a hillside home in the Highlands, and a newer property near the bay all put different demands on a solar system. Clean Energy Renewables designs and installs residential solar in San Mateo around the specific roof, the household’s electricity use, and the electrical service the house already has.
We are a Silicon Valley-based contractor licensed in California (License #1119067). The company was founded in 2023 by a solar technician with 13 years in the field, and journeyman electricians and C-10 contractors oversee the electrical and roof work on every job.
Roofs in Baywood, Hayward Park, and Central San Mateo tend to be older and more cut up, with dormers, chimneys, and additions that shrink the usable area. Roofs in newer areas toward Shoreview are often simpler but sit closer to neighbors’ trees and second stories. The Highlands add slope and mature tree cover to the mix.
That variety is why we start with a site survey instead of a template. We measure the roof, map obstructions, and check shading through the day and across seasons. We use Enphase microinverters, which let each panel operate independently, so a chimney shadow on one panel does not pull down the rest of the array the way it can with a single string inverter.

Our streamlined process makes it easy for homeowners to transition to solar with confidence, from your first consultation to a fully operational system built for years of dependable performance:
we evaluate your energy usage, roof condition, and future electricity needs.
a detailed inspection of roof orientation, shading, and structural integrity.
every system is professionally engineered to California building and electrical standards.
we manage paperwork and coordinate with local authorities and utility providers.
completed by journeyman electricians working alongside licensed C-10 contractors.
we coordinate final inspections, utility approvals, and smart monitoring setup.
Customers who go solar with PG&E now are on California’s net billing tariff, and the credit for power sent back to the grid is far lower than it was under NEM 2. In practice, that shifts the goal from producing as much as the roof allows to producing what the household will actually use, ideally during the day or from a battery in the evening.
We review twelve months of bills, look at when your household uses power, and model a few sizes with and without storage. If a smaller system with a battery fits your use better than a large export-heavy array, we will tell you that.
If you already have solar from before April 2023, you may still be on NEM 2, which California allows for 20 years from your Permission to Operate date. A one-time expansion of up to 1 kW or 10% of the original system, whichever is greater, is generally allowed without losing that status. Larger additions can move the whole system to the current tariff, so we check your PTO date and original system size before we draw anything.

Most San Mateo homes buy their electricity generation from WestLight Energy, the community electricity provider that was previously named Peninsula Clean Energy, while PG&E delivers it and sends the bill. That split matters when we model savings, because generation and delivery charges are priced differently. We read your actual bill rather than assuming a flat rate.
The City of San Mateo offers automated SolarAPP+ review for standard residential rooftop installations. Projects that fall outside that program’s checklist, such as unusual roof conditions, go through regular plan review instead. Either way, we prepare the drawings, submit to the city, schedule inspections, and handle PG&E interconnection through the Permission to Operate approval.

Many San Mateo houses were wired decades before anyone planned for a battery or a Level 2 charger. Before recommending either one, we do a load calculation and look at the main panel’s capacity. Sometimes the existing service is fine, and sometimes a panel upgrade or load management is the sensible route.
For batteries we install Tesla Powerwall and Enphase IQ systems. San Mateo was among the cities PG&E listed in its October 2019 Public Safety Power Shutoffs, and many homeowners ask for backup on essential circuits (refrigerator, internet, lighting) rather than the whole house, which keeps the battery size and cost down. We also install Tesla Wall Connectors and other home EV chargers.
Let us help reduce your energy bills with solar panels, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging. As one of the best solar companies serving the Bay Area, Peninsula Valley, we offer complete design, permitting, and installation services so you can tap into clean electricity while maintaining grid independence. Our crew includes journeyman electricians and licensed C-10 solar energy contractors to ensure electrical code compliance and durable installations.

We design and install grid-tied solar systems using high-efficiency panels and Enphase microinverters, paired with advanced smart monitoring.

We install home batteries, such as Tesla Powerwall or Enphase IQ, to store surplus solar power generated during the day so you can use it at night or when the power goes out.

We install all types of EV chargers, from wall-mounted connectors to outlets. Our service includes an electrical-panel assessment, permit handling, and installation in compliance with local codes.

For homeowners with older systems, particularly those who wish to stay on California’s NEM2 program, we provide safe removal, refurbishment, and reinstallation of solar arrays with updated hardware.

A solar array can generate power for decades if properly maintained. We offer performance monitoring, diagnostic testing, inverter and battery replacements, and system expansions, such as adding extra panels or storage.

Our consultations are complimentary to give you the space to ask questions and understand what clean energy can realistically deliver for you. We assess your electricity use, roof orientation, and shading, then present a clear design with equipment choices, warranties, and projected savings.
If your San Mateo system is producing less than it used to, the cause is not always the panels. Inverters, wiring, shading from trees that grew, and monitoring faults are common culprits. We diagnose the system, replace inverters or batteries when needed, and add panels or storage to existing arrays. When the roof needs replacing, we remove the array, protect it during roofing, and reinstall it with testing afterward.

The 30% federal Residential Clean Energy Credit ended for expenditures made after December 31, 2025, so a system finished in 2026 or later does not qualify. A tax professional can advise on any credit from a 2025 installation that you may still be carrying forward.
Not always. We check the panel’s rating and what it already carries before design. Solar alone rarely needs one, but a battery plus an EV charger on an older panel sometimes does.
Often a small addition is allowed (up to the greater of 1 kW or 10% of the original size, one time). Beyond that, the system may move to the current tariff. Bring your original paperwork and we will check.
We disconnect and remove the array before roofing begins, then reinstall, reconnect, and test it afterward.
