Solar Installation in East Palo Alto, CA

East Palo Alto sits right at the bay, between Highway 101 and the Palo Alto border, with University Avenue and the Ravenswood area running through it. Housing here is mostly single-family homes on smaller lots, many with garages, additions, or accessory dwelling units. For these homes, the most useful question about solar is a practical one: how much of this household’s bill can a system actually offset, and is it worth the cost?

Clean Energy Renewables will answer it honestly. We are a California-licensed contractor (License #1119067), and our approach is to recommend systems that match real energy use instead of selling the biggest array that fits. Journeyman electricians and C-10 contractors oversee the electrical and roof interfaces on every job.

Starting with the bill

We begin with twelve months of electricity bills. If the household uses a lot of power in the evening, a solar-only system may do less than expected under net billing, and a battery may carry more of the value. If a family is home during the day, direct use of solar can be significant. We model a few options and show you the tradeoffs.

Under PG&E’s net billing tariff, power sent back to the grid earns far less credit than it did under NEM 2, which makes right-sizing important. Your electricity generation comes from WestLight Energy (formerly Peninsula Clean Energy) because East Palo Alto is in San Mateo County, and PG&E delivers it.

Flat lots, accessory units, and added loads

Many East Palo Alto properties are on level lots, and some have a main house and a second unit. When an ADU shares electrical service, solar and battery design has to consider both households’ loads and what the panel can carry.

We review the service, the sub-panel situation, and who pays for what before designing. Roofs on additions and older sections can differ in age and material, so we inspect each roof plane.

Incentives: what is and is not available

The federal 30% Residential Clean Energy Credit ended for spending after December 31, 2025, so new projects cannot count on it. California’s Self-Generation Incentive Program has income-qualified budgets, but recent program reports show most budgets closed or waitlisted. We will not promise a rebate. If a program is open when you call, we will help you understand eligibility requirements, and we do not guarantee any amount.

Batteries and backup

We install Tesla Powerwall and Enphase IQ batteries. Enphase batteries are modular, so you can begin with fewer modules and add later, which suits households that want backup for essentials without a large up-front system. We help you choose which circuits to back up (refrigerator, internet, lighting, medical devices) and size accordingly. We also locate equipment with attention to code clearances and ventilation.

If you drive an EV or plan to, we install Tesla Wall Connectors and other home chargers, after a load check on your main panel. Older panels sometimes cannot take another large load, and we explain the options before you buy anything.

Existing systems

If your system is producing less than it used to, we diagnose it, replace inverters or batteries when needed, and expand arrays or add storage. If you need a roof replaced, we remove and reinstall the system.
